एते रुवन्ति मधुरं सारसा जलचारिणः धरुवम अत्र जलस्थायॊ महान इति मतिर मम ॥ १-१३८-११ ॥
'These cranes, which roam in the water, are sweetly crying. It is certainly my opinion that there must be a large body of water here.' ॥ 1-138-11 ॥
english translation
अनुज्ञातः स गच्छेति भरात्रा जयेष्ठेन भारत जगाम तत्र यत्र सम रुवन्ति जलचारिणः ॥ १-१३८-१२ ॥
'O descendant of Bharata, having been permitted by his elder brother to go, he went to that place where the water-dwelling birds were crying out together.' ॥ 1-138-12 ॥
english translation
स तत्र पीत्वा पानीयं सनात्वा च भरतर्षभ उत्तरीयेण पानीयम आजहार तदा नृप ॥ १-१३८-१३ ॥
'O best of the Bharatas, having drunk water and bathed there, he then carried water using his upper garment, O king.' ॥ 1-138-13 ॥
english translation
गव्यूति मात्राद आगत्य तवरितॊ मातरं परति स सुप्तां मातरं दृष्ट्वा भरातॄंश च वसुधातले भृशं दुःखपरीतात्मा विललाप वृकॊदरः ॥ १-१३८-१४ ॥
'Having quickly returned from a distance of only one gavyuti, he saw his mother and brothers sleeping on the ground. Vrikodara (Bhima), with his heart deeply afflicted by sorrow, lamented intensely.' ॥ 1-138-14 ॥
english translation
शयनेषु परार्ध्येषु ये पुरा वारणावते नाधिजग्मुस तदा निद्रां ते ऽदय सुप्ता महीतले ॥ १-१३८-१५ ॥
'Cursed am I, to witness my brothers lying asleep upon the hard ground. What greater torment could befall me than this?' ॥ 1-138-15 ॥
