आगमंस ते वनॊद्देशम अल्पमूलफलॊदकम करूर पक्षिमृगं घॊरं सायाह्ने भरतर्षभाः ॥ १-१३८-६ ॥
'O best among the Bharatas (Pandavas), in the evening, they went to a terrible forest with few roots, fruits, and water, filled with cruel beasts and birds.' ॥ 1-138-6 ॥
english translation
घॊरा समभवत संध्या दारुणा मृगपक्षिणः अप्रकाशा दिशः सर्वा वातैर आसन्न अनार्तवैः ॥ १-१३८-७ ॥
'The evening became frightening and the beasts and birds turned fierce. All the directions became dark, with winds blowing out of season.' ॥ 1-138-7 ॥
english translation
ते शरमेण च कौरव्यास तृष्णया च परपीडिताः नाशक्नुवंस तदा गन्तुं निद्रया च परवृद्धया ॥ १-१३८-८ ॥
'O descendant of Kuru, they, afflicted by fatigue, thirst, and overwhelmed by sleep, could not proceed further at that time.' ॥ 1-138-8 ॥
english translation
ततॊ भीमॊ वनं घॊरं परविश्य विजनं महत नयग्रॊधं विपुलच छायं रमणीयम उपाद्रवत ॥ १-१३८-९ ॥
'Then Bhima, having entered a terrible and vast solitary forest, approached a large banyan tree with extensive shade and a delightful appearance.' ॥ 1-138-9 ॥
english translation
तत्र निक्षिप्य तान सर्वान उवाच भरतर्षभः पानीयं मृगयामीह विश्रमध्वम इति परभॊ ॥ १-१३८-१० ॥
'Having laid them all down there, the best among the Bharatas said, 'O lord, rest while I search for water here.' ॥ 1-138-10 ॥
