[वै] कुरुराजे च रङ्गस्थे भीमे च बलिनां वरे पक्षपात कृतस्नेहः स दविधेवाभवज जनः ॥ १-१२५-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana said, "O king of the Kurus, and O foremost among mighty warriors, Bhima, amid the arena, became a source of joy for all. People were divided into two factions, each expressing love and support for one of the two."' ॥ 1-125-1 ॥

english translation

[vai] kururAje ca raGgasthe bhIme ca balinAM vare pakSapAta kRtasnehaH sa davidhevAbhavaja janaH ॥ 1-125-1 ॥

हा वीर कुरुराजेति हा भीमेति च नर्दताम पुरुषाणां सुविपुलाः परणादाः सहसॊत्थिताः ॥ १-१२५-२ ॥

'"Alas, the valiant king of the Kurus!" "Alas, Bhima!" were the shouts that arose, echoed by countless men standing all around.' ॥ 1-125-2 ॥

hA vIra kururAjeti hA bhImeti ca nardatAma puruSANAM suvipulAH paraNAdAH sahasòtthitAH ॥ 1-125-2 ॥

ततः कषुब्धार्णव निभं रङ्गम आलॊक्य बुद्धिमान भारद्वाजः परियं पुत्रम अश्वत्थामानम अब्रवीत ॥ १-१२५-३ ॥

'Observing the arena, tumultuous like a disturbed ocean, the intelligent Bharadwaja then addressed his son Ashwatthama, saying.' ॥ 1-125-3 ॥

tataH kaSubdhArNava nibhaM raGgama Alòkya buddhimAna bhAradvAjaH pariyaM putrama azvatthAmAnama abravIta ॥ 1-125-3 ॥

वारयैतौ महावीर्यौ कृतयॊग्याव उभाव अपि मा भूद रङ्ग परकॊपॊ ऽयं भीम दुर्यॊधनॊद्भवः ॥ १-१२५-४ ॥

'Restrain these two mighty warriors, both highly proficient in arms. Let not the ire of the assembly be provoked by this combat between Bhima and Duryodhana.' ॥ 1-125-4 ॥

'Vaisampayana continued, 'Then the son of their preceptor restrained the combatants, who stood with maces uplifted, resembling two swollen oceans agitated by the winds of the cosmic dissolution.'' ॥ 1-125-5 ॥
