परतिगृह्य च तान सर्वान दरॊणॊ वचनम अब्रवीत रहस्य एकः परतीतात्मा कृतॊपसदनांस तदा ।। १-१२२-४१ ।।

sanskrit

'Accepting them all as his disciples, one day Drona separated them and, having them touch his feet, spoke with a heart filled with emotion, "I have a specific goal in my mind. Promise me, O sinless ones, that when you become proficient in warfare, you will fulfill it.' ।। 1-122-41 ।।

english translation

paratigRhya ca tAna sarvAna daròNò vacanama abravIta rahasya ekaH paratItAtmA kRtòpasadanAMsa tadA || 1-122-41 ||

hk transliteration

कार्यं मे काङ्क्षितं किं चिद धृदि संपरिवर्तते कृतास्त्रैस तत परदेयं मे तद ऋतं वदतानघाः ।। १-१२२-४२ ।।

sanskrit

'What I desire to achieve, is it firmly resolved in your hearts? O blameless ones, tell me the truth. With your accomplished skills in weaponry, fulfill that purpose for me.' ।। 1-122-42 ।।

english translation

kAryaM me kAGkSitaM kiM cida dhRdi saMparivartate kRtAstraisa tata paradeyaM me tada RtaM vadatAnaghAH || 1-122-42 ||

hk transliteration

तच छरुत्वा कौरवेयास ते तूष्णीम आसन विशां पते अर्जुनस तु ततः सर्वं परतिजज्ञे परंतपः ।। १-१२२-४३ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaisampayana continued, 'Hearing these words, the Kuru princes remained silent. But Arjuna, O king, vowed to accomplish it whatever it was.' ।। 1-122-43 ।।

english translation

taca charutvA kauraveyAsa te tUSNIma Asana vizAM pate arjunasa tu tataH sarvaM paratijajJe paraMtapaH || 1-122-43 ||

hk transliteration

ततॊ ऽरजुनं मूर्ध्नि तदा समाघ्राय पुनः पुनः परीतिपूर्वं परिष्वज्य पररुरॊद मुदा तदा ।। १-१२२-४४ ।।

sanskrit

'Drona then cheerfully clasped Arjuna to his bosom and took the scent of his head repeatedly, shedding tears of joy all the while.' ।। 1-122-44 ।।

english translation

tatò 'rajunaM mUrdhni tadA samAghrAya punaH punaH parItipUrvaM pariSvajya pararuròda mudA tadA || 1-122-44 ||

hk transliteration

ततॊ दरॊणः पाण्डुपुत्रान अस्त्राणि विविधानि च गराहयाम आस दिव्यानि मानुषाणि च वीर्यवान ।। १-१२२-४५ ।।

sanskrit

'Endowed with great prowess, Drona taught the sons of Pandu the use of numerous weapons, both celestial and mortal.' ।। 1-122-45 ।।

tatò daròNaH pANDuputrAna astrANi vividhAni ca garAhayAma Asa divyAni mAnuSANi ca vIryavAna || 1-122-45 ||
