याजकैर अभ्यनुज्ञातं परेतकर्मणि निष्ठितैः घृतावसिक्तं राजानं सह माद्र्या सवलंकृतम ॥ १-११८-२१ ॥

तुङ्गपद्मकमिश्रेण चन्दनेन सुगन्धिना अन्यैश च विविधैर गन्धैर अनल्पैः समदाहयन ॥ १-११८-२२ ॥
'When the other funeral ceremonies also were finished in consonance with the directions of the priests, the Kauravas set fire to the dead bodies of the king and the queen, bringing lotuses, sandal-paste, and other fragrant substances to the pyre.' ॥ 1-118-22 ॥

तस तयॊः शरीरे ते दृष्ट्वा मॊहवशं गता हाहा पुत्रेति कौसल्या पपात सहसा भुवि ॥ १-११८-२३ ॥
'Then seeing the bodies aflame, Kausalya burst out, 'O my son, my son!'--and fell senseless on the ground.' ॥ 1-118-23 ॥

तां परेक्ष्य पतिताम आर्तां पौरजानपदॊ जनः रुरॊद सस्वनं सर्वॊ राजभक्त्या कृपान्वितः ॥ १-११८-२४ ॥
'And seeing her down the citizens and the inhabitants of the provinces began to wail from grief and affection for their king.' ॥ 1-118-24 ॥
