अग्निं जुह्वन्न उभौ कालाव उभौ कालाव उपस्पृशन कृशः परिमिताराहश चीरचर्म जटाधरः ॥ १-११०-३१ ॥
'Abandoning the luxuries of cities and towns, clad in barks of trees, and living on fruits and roots.' ॥ 1-110-31 ॥
english translation
शीतवातातप सहः कषुत्पिपासाश्रमान्वितः तपसा दुश्चरेणेदं शरीरम उपशॊषयन ॥ १-११०-३२ ॥
'Enduring cold, heat, wind, and sun, and afflicted with hunger and thirst, he was exhausting his body through rigorous austerity.' ॥ 1-110-32 ॥

एकान्तशीली विमृशन पक्वापक्वेन वर्तयन पितॄन देवांश च वन्येन वाग्भिर अद्भिश च तर्पयन ॥ १-११०-३३ ॥
'Contemplating in solitude, dealing with the ripe and unripe, pleasing ancestors, gods, wild creatures, and other beings with his words and offerings.' ॥ 1-110-33 ॥

वानप्रस्थजनस्यापि दर्शनं कुलवासिनाम नाप्रियाण्य आचरज जातु किं पुनर गरामवासिनाम ॥ १-११०-३४ ॥
'Even the sight of a forest-dweller is not undesirable to those residing in cities. Then what to speak of those living in villages?' ॥ 1-110-34 ॥

एवम आरण्य शास्त्राणाम उग्रम उग्रतरं विधिम काङ्क्षमाणॊ ऽहम आसिष्ये देहस्यास्य समापनात ॥ १-११०-३५ ॥
'Until I lay down this body, I shall thus practice the severe ordinances of the Vanaprastha scriptures, always searching for severer ones that they may contain.' ॥ 1-110-35 ॥
