परनष्टं शंतनॊर वंशं समीक्ष्य पुनर उद्धृतम ततॊ निर्वचनं लॊके सर्वराष्ट्रेष्व अवर्तत ।। १-१०२-२१ ।।

'Witnessing the revival of the lineage of Santanu, it became a widespread belief across all nations that among the mothers of heroes, the daughters of the king of Kashi held the highest esteem.' ।। 1-102-21 ।।

paranaSTaM zaMtanòra vaMzaM samIkSya punara uddhRtama tatò nirvacanaM lòke sarvarASTreSva avartata || 1-102-21 ||

वीरसूनां काशिसुते देशानां कुरुजाङ्गलम सर्वधर्मविदां भीष्मः पुराणां गजसाह्वयम ।। १-१०२-२२ ।।

'Bhishma, the knower of all duties, became the embodiment of ancient tales in the land of Kuru, renowned among the brave sons of the kingdom, especially among those who were well-versed in righteousness.' ।। 1-102-22 ।।

vIrasUnAM kAzisute dezAnAM kurujAGgalama sarvadharmavidAM bhISmaH purANAM gajasAhvayama || 1-102-22 ||

धृतराष्ट्रस तव अचक्षुष्ट्वाद राज्यं न परत्यपद्यत करणत्वाच च विदुरः पाण्डुर आसीन महीपतिः ।। १-१०२-२३ ।।

'Pandu ascended the throne as king, as Dhritarashtra was blind and Vidura, being born of a Sudra woman, did not inherit the kingdom. One day, Bhishma, the foremost in knowledge of statesmanship and morality, addressed Vidura, who was well-versed in religious truths and virtues, in the following manner.' ।। 1-102-23 ।।

dhRtarASTrasa tava acakSuSTvAda rAjyaM na paratyapadyata karaNatvAca ca viduraH pANDura AsIna mahIpatiH || 1-102-23 ||
