वीरसूनां काशिसुते देशानां कुरुजाङ्गलम सर्वधर्मविदां भीष्मः पुराणां गजसाह्वयम ॥ १-१०२-२२ ॥

'Bhishma, the knower of all duties, became the embodiment of ancient tales in the land of Kuru, renowned among the brave sons of the kingdom, especially among those who were well-versed in righteousness.' ॥ 1-102-22 ॥
