यदाश्रौषं शरतल्पे शयानं; वृद्धं वीरं सादितं चित्रपुङ्खैः भीष्मं कृत्वा सॊमकान अल्पशेषांस; तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय ॥ १-१-१२७ ॥
'When I learned that the venerable hero Bhishma, having significantly diminished the Shomaka clan, lay on a bed of arrows, bearing the weight of numerous wounds, I perceived it as a sign of victory, O Sanjaya, I had no hope of success.' ॥ 1-1-127 ॥
