एवं तेषाम अहं सम्यक शप्तानां राजसत्तम मॊक्षार्थं मानुषाल लॊकाद यथावत कृतवत्य अहम ॥ १-९३-४१ ॥
'O noblest of kings, I complied with their wishes to release them from their earthly existence.' ॥ 1-93-41 ॥
english translation
अयं शापाद ऋषेस तस्य एक एव नृपॊत्तम दयौ राजन मानुषे लॊके चिरं वत्स्यति भारत ॥ १-९३-४२ ॥
'From that curse of the sage, only one, O best of kings, Dyu, will indeed remain in the human world for a long time, O descendant of Bharata.' ॥ 1-93-42 ॥
english translation
एतद आख्याय सा देवी तत्रैवान्तरधीयत आदाय च कुमारं तं जगामाथ यथेप्सितम ॥ १-९३-४३ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, 'Having said this, the goddess disappeared then and there. And taking with her the child, she went away to the region she chose.' ॥ 1-93-43 ॥

स तु देवव्रतॊ नाम गाङ्गेय इति चाभवत दविनामा शंतनॊः पुत्रः शंतनॊर अधिकॊ गुणैः ॥ १-९३-४४ ॥
'The child of Shantanu was named both Gangeya and Devavrata, surpassing his father in all accomplishments.' ॥ 1-93-44 ॥

शंतनुश चापि शॊकार्तॊ जगाम सवपुरं ततः तस्याहं कीर्तयिष्यामि शंतनॊर अमितान गुणान ॥ १-९३-४५ ॥
'Overwhelmed with grief, Shantanu then returned to his city. I will now recount the boundless virtues of Shantanu.' ॥ 1-93-45 ॥
