इति दद्याद इति यजेद इत्य अधीयीत मे वरतम इत्य अस्मिन्न अभयान्य आहुस तानि वर्ज्यानि नित्यशः ॥ १-८५-२६ ॥
'"One should give," "one should sacrifice," "one should study—this is my vow," declaring these, some claim to fearlessness. However, such actions are to be always avoided if they are performed with a sense of ego or for self-aggrandizement.' ॥ 1-85-26 ॥
english translation
येनाश्रयं वेदयन्ते पुराणं; मनीषिणॊ मानसमानभक्तम तन निःश्रेयस तैजसं रूपम एत्य; परां शान्तिं पराप्नुयुः परेत्य चेह ॥ १-८५-२७ ॥
'Hence, refrain from such sentiments. Those wise individuals who rely solely on the immutable, unfathomable Brahman, perpetually bestowing blessings upon virtuous souls like yourself, attain complete peace in both this life and the hereafter.' ॥ 1-85-27 ॥
