विरूपॊ यावद आदर्शे नात्मनः पश्यते मुखम मन्यते तावद आत्मानम अन्येभ्यॊ रूपवत्तरम ॥ १-६९-६ ॥
'An unattractive individual deems themselves more handsome than others until they confront their reflection in the mirror.' ॥ 1-69-6 ॥
english translation
virUpò yAvada Adarze nAtmanaH pazyate mukhama manyate tAvada AtmAnama anyebhyò rUpavattarama ॥ 1-69-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयदा तु मुखम आदर्शे विकृतं सॊ ऽभिवीक्षते तदेतरं विजानाति आत्मानं नेतरं जनम ॥ १-६९-७ ॥
'When, however, one beholds their distorted reflection in the mirror, they recognize the true appearance and cease comparing themselves to others.' ॥ 1-69-7 ॥
english translation
yadA tu mukhama Adarze vikRtaM sò 'bhivIkSate tadetaraM vijAnAti AtmAnaM netaraM janama ॥ 1-69-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअतीव रूपसंपन्नॊ न किं चिद अवमन्यते अतीव जल्पन दुर्वाचॊ भवतीह विहेठकः ॥ १-६९-८ ॥
'Excessively adorned, he does not consider anything as insignificant. Excessive prattling and ill-spoken words make one detested here.' ॥ 1-69-8 ॥

atIva rUpasaMpannò na kiM cida avamanyate atIva jalpana durvAcò bhavatIha viheThakaH ॥ 1-69-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमूर्खॊ हि जल्पतां पुंसां शरुत्वा वाचः शुभाशुभाः अशुभं वाक्यम आदत्ते पुरीषम इव सूकरः ॥ १-६९-९ ॥
'Just as swine invariably seek out dirt and filth, even when surrounded by a garden of flowers, so do the wicked gravitate towards the evil in words, distinguishing it from the good that others might express.' ॥ 1-69-9 ॥

mUrkhò hi jalpatAM puMsAM zarutvA vAcaH zubhAzubhAH azubhaM vAkyama Adatte purISama iva sUkaraH ॥ 1-69-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपराज्ञस तु जल्पतां पुंसां शरुत्वा वाचः शुभाशुभाः गुणवद वाक्यम आदत्ते हंसः कषीरम इवाम्भसः ॥ १-६९-१० ॥
'On the other hand, a wise person, upon hearing the words of others, whether auspicious or inauspicious, accepts the virtuous words, just as a swan separates milk from water.' ॥ 1-69-10 ॥

parAjJasa tu jalpatAM puMsAM zarutvA vAcaH zubhAzubhAH guNavada vAkyama Adatte haMsaH kaSIrama ivAmbhasaH ॥ 1-69-10 ॥
