एतद आचक्ष्व मे सर्वं यथावृत्तं तपॊधन यद यच च कृतवन्तस ते तत्र तत्र महारथाः ॥ १-५६-११ ॥

'O possessor of ascetic virtue, narrate to me the unfolding events and recount the achievements of those mighty charioteers.' ॥ 1-56-11 ॥

etada AcakSva me sarvaM yathAvRttaM tapòdhana yada yaca ca kRtavantasa te tatra tatra mahArathAH ॥ 1-56-11 ॥

[व] महर्षेः सर्वलॊकेषु पूजितस्य महात्मनः परवक्ष्यामि मतं कृत्स्नं वयासस्यामित तेजसः ॥ १-५६-१२ ॥

'Vaisampayana suggested, "O king, kindly set a specific time for the narration. The epic recounted by Krishna-Dwaipayana is incredibly expansive."' ॥ 1-56-12 ॥

[va] maharSeH sarvalòkeSu pUjitasya mahAtmanaH paravakSyAmi mataM kRtsnaM vayAsasyAmita tejasaH ॥ 1-56-12 ॥

इदं शतसहस्रं हि शलॊकानां पुण्यकर्मणाम सत्यवत्य आत्मजेनेह वयाख्यातम अमितौजसा ॥ १-५६-१३ ॥

'This is but the beginning. I shall recite it. I shall repeat the whole of the composition in full, of the illustrious and great Rishi Vyasa of immeasurable mental power, and worshipped in all the worlds. This Bharata consists of a hundred thousand sacred slokas composed by the son of Satyavati, of immeasurable mental power.' ॥ 1-56-13 ॥

idaM zatasahasraM hi zalòkAnAM puNyakarmaNAma satyavatya Atmajeneha vayAkhyAtama amitaujasA ॥ 1-56-13 ॥

य इदं शरावयेद विद्वान यश चेदं शृणुयान नरः ते बरह्मणः सथानम एत्य पराप्नुयुर देवतुल्यताम ॥ १-५६-१४ ॥

'He that reads it to others, and they that hear it read, attain to the world of Brahman and become equal to the very gods.' ॥ 1-56-14 ॥

ya idaM zarAvayeda vidvAna yaza cedaM zRNuyAna naraH te barahmaNaH sathAnama etya parApnuyura devatulyatAma ॥ 1-56-14 ॥

इदं हि वेदैः समितं पवित्रम अपि चॊत्तमम शराव्याणाम उत्तमं चेदं पुराणम ऋषिसंस्तुतम ॥ १-५६-१५ ॥

'This Bharata is equal unto the Vedas, is holy and excellent; is the worthiest of all to be listened to, and is a Purana worshipped by the Rishis.' ॥ 1-56-15 ॥
