तं दृष्ट्वा जीवितं वृक्षं काश्यपेन महात्मना उवाच तक्षकॊ बरह्मन्न एतद अत्यद्भुतं तवयि ॥ १-३९-११ ॥

'Seeing that tree restored to life by the great sage Kashyapa, Takshaka spoke to the Brahmana, 'This is truly miraculous, O revered one!''' ॥ 1-39-11 ॥

english translation

taM dRSTvA jIvitaM vRkSaM kAzyapena mahAtmanA uvAca takSakò barahmanna etada atyadbhutaM tavayi ॥ 1-39-11 ॥

विप्रेन्द्र यद विषं हन्या मम वा मद्विधस्य वा कं तवम अर्थम अभिप्रेप्सुर यासि तत्र तपॊधन ॥ १-३९-१२ ॥

'Observing the tree being revived by the illustrious Kasyapa, Takshaka addressed him, saying, 'It is not surprising for you to neutralize my poison or that of any other like me.' ॥ 1-39-12 ॥

english translation

viprendra yada viSaM hanyA mama vA madvidhasya vA kaM tavama arthama abhiprepsura yAsi tatra tapòdhana ॥ 1-39-12 ॥

यत ते ऽभिलषितं पराप्तुं फलं तस्मान नृपॊत्तमात अहम एव परदास्यामि तत ते यद्य अपि दुर्लभम ॥ १-३९-१३ ॥

'O ascetic endowed with a wealth of penance, for what purpose do you proceed there? The reward you seek from that excellent king, I assure you, I will grant, no matter how challenging it may be to attain.' ॥ 1-39-13 ॥

yata te 'bhilaSitaM parAptuM phalaM tasmAna nRpòttamAta ahama eva paradAsyAmi tata te yadya api durlabhama ॥ 1-39-13 ॥

विप्र शापाभिभूते च कषीणायुषि नराधिपे घटमानस्य ते विप्र सिद्धिः संशयिता भवेत ॥ १-३९-१४ ॥

'O king adorned with fame, achieving success in your endeavor on a ruler who is under the influence of a Brahmana's curse and whose lifespan has been curtailed may be uncertain.' ॥ 1-39-14 ॥

vipra zApAbhibhUte ca kaSINAyuSi narAdhipe ghaTamAnasya te vipra siddhiH saMzayitA bhaveta ॥ 1-39-14 ॥

ततॊ यशः परदीप्तं ते तरिषु लॊकेषु विश्रुतम विरश्मिर इव घर्मांशुर अन्तर्धानम इतॊ वरजेत ॥ १-३९-१५ ॥

'In that case, this blazing fame of thine that hath overspread the three worlds will disappear like the Sun when deprived of his splendor (on the occasion of the eclipse).' ॥ 1-39-15 ॥

tatò yazaH paradIptaM te tariSu lòkeSu vizrutama virazmira iva gharmAMzura antardhAnama itò varajeta ॥ 1-39-15 ॥
