जलस्थानेषु सर्वेषु कवाथ्यमानेषु भारत गतसत्त्वाः सम दृश्यन्ते कूर्ममत्स्याः सहस्रशः ॥ १-२१७-९ ॥

sanskrit

'The tanks and ponds within that forest, heated by the surrounding fire, began to boil. The fishes and tortoises within them were all observed perishing.' ॥ 1-217-9 ॥

english translation

jalasthAneSu sarveSu kavAthyamAneSu bhArata gatasattvAH sama dRzyante kUrmamatsyAH sahasrazaH ॥ 1-217-9 ॥
