[वै] ततस ते पाण्डवाः सर्वे पाञ्चाल्यश च महायशाः परत्युत्थाय महात्मानं कृष्णं दृष्ट्वाभ्यपूजयन ॥ १-१८८-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana said, 'Then all the Pandavas, along with the illustrious king of the Panchalas and all others present, rose and respectfully saluted the illustrious Rishi Krishna (Dwaipayana).'' ॥ 1-188-1 ॥

[vai] tatasa te pANDavAH sarve pAJcAlyaza ca mahAyazAH paratyutthAya mahAtmAnaM kRSNaM dRSTvAbhyapUjayana ॥ 1-188-1 ॥

परतिनन्द्य स तान सर्वन पृष्ट्वा कुशलम अन्ततः आसने काञ्चने शुभ्रे निषसाद महामनाः ॥ १-१८८-२ ॥

'The venerable sage returned their salutations and asked after their well-being before sitting down on a carpet woven from gold.' ॥ 1-188-2 ॥

अनुज्ञातास तु ते सर्वे कृष्णेनामित तेजसा आसनेषु महार्हेषु निषेदुर दविपदां वराः ॥ १-१८८-३ ॥

'Directed by Krishna (Dwaipayana), whose energy was immeasurable, the foremost men present took their seats on luxurious chairs.' ॥ 1-188-3 ॥

ततॊ मुहूर्तान मधुरां वाणीम उच्चार्य पार्षतः पप्रच्छ तं महात्मानं दरौपद्य अर्थे विशां पतिः ॥ १-१८८-४ ॥

'Shortly thereafter, O monarch, the son of Prishata spoke in gentle tones and asked the illustrious Rishi about his daughter's wedding.' ॥ 1-188-4 ॥

'And he asked, "O illustrious one, how can one woman become the wife of many men without incurring sin? Please tell me all about this truthfully."' ॥ 1-188-5 ॥
