परिघैश चायसैः पीतैः संनिकर्षे च मुष्टिभिः निघ्नतां समरे ऽनयॊन्यं शब्दॊ दिवम इवास्पृशत ॥ १-१७-१६ ॥
'The warriors fighting at a distance from one another brought one another down by sharp iron missiles, and thosefighting at close quarters slew one another with blows of their fists.' ॥ 1-17-16 ॥

छिन्धि भिन्धि परधावध्वं पातयाभिसरेति च वयश्रूयन्त महाघॊराः शब्दास तत्र समन्ततः ॥ १-१७-१७ ॥
'The warriors fighting at a distance from one another brought one another down by sharp iron missiles, and those fighting at close quarters slew one another with blows of their fists. And the air was filled with shrieks of distress. Everywhere were heard the alarming sounds,-cut, pierce, at them, hurl down, advance.' ॥ 1-17-17 ॥

एवं सुतुमुले युद्धे वर्तमाने भयावहे नरनारायणौ देवौ समाजग्मतुर आहवम ॥ १-१७-१८ ॥
'And when the battle was raging fiercely, Nara and Narayana entered the field.' ॥ 1-17-18 ॥

तत्र दिव्यं धनुर दृष्ट्वा नरस्य भगवान अपि चिन्तयाम आस वै चक्रं विष्णुर दानव सूदनम ॥ १-१७-१९ ॥
'And Narayana seeing the celestial bow in the hand of Nara, called to mind his weapon, the Danava-destroying discus.' ॥ 1-17-19 ॥

ततॊ ऽमबराच चिन्तित मात्रम आगतं; महाप्रभं चक्रम अमित्रतापनम विभावसॊस तुल्यम अकुण्ठमण्डलं; सुदर्शनं भीमम अजय्यम उत्तमम ॥ १-१७-२० ॥
'And lo! The discus, Sudarsana, destroyer of enemies, like to Agni in effulgence and dreadful in battle, came from the sky as soon as thought of.' ॥ 1-17-20 ॥
