आत्मनस तु मया शरेयॊ बॊद्धव्यम इति रॊचये बरह्म वध्यात्म वध्या वा शरेय आत्मवधॊ मम ॥ १-१४९-६ ॥
'I consider this advice excellent and I wish to follow it. When faced with the choice between the death of a Brahmana and my own, I would choose the latter.' ॥ 1-149-6 ॥
english translation
बरह्मवध्या परं पापं निष्कृतिर नात्र विद्यते अबुद्धिपूर्वं कृत्वापि शरेय आत्मवधॊ मम ॥ १-१४९-७ ॥
'Killing a Brahmana is the gravest sin, with no expiation. I believe a reluctant sacrifice of myself is better than the reluctant sacrifice of a Brahmana. Blessed lady, sacrificing myself does not mean self-destruction for me.' ॥ 1-149-7 ॥
english translation
न तव अहं वधम आकाङ्क्षे सवयम एवात्मनः शुभे परैः कृते वधे पापं न किं चिन मयि विद्यते ॥ १-१४९-८ ॥
'I do not desire your death for my benefit. Even if others kill you, I will not incur any sin.' ॥ 1-149-8 ॥
english translation
अभिसंधिकृते तस्मिन बराह्मणस्य वधे मया निष्कृतिं न परपश्यामि नृशंसं कषुद्रम एव च ॥ १-१४९-९ ॥
'However, consenting to the death of a Brahmana would be a cruel and sinful act, with no escape from its consequences.' ॥ 1-149-9 ॥
english translation
आगतस्य गृहे तयागस तथैव शरणार्थिनः याचमानस्य च वधॊ नृशंसं परमं मतम ॥ १-१४९-१० ॥
'Learned individuals have stated that abandoning one who seeks shelter in your house or taking the life of one who wishes to die by your hand is both cruel and sinful.' ॥ 1-149-10 ॥
