आत्मनस तु मया शरेयॊ बॊद्धव्यम इति रॊचये बरह्म वध्यात्म वध्या वा शरेय आत्मवधॊ मम ।। १-१४९-६ ।।

'I consider this advice excellent and I wish to follow it. When faced with the choice between the death of a Brahmana and my own, I would choose the latter.' ।। 1-149-6 ।।

english translation

Atmanasa tu mayA zareyò bòddhavyama iti ròcaye barahma vadhyAtma vadhyA vA zareya Atmavadhò mama || 1-149-6 ||

'Killing a Brahmana is the gravest sin, with no expiation. I believe a reluctant sacrifice of myself is better than the reluctant sacrifice of a Brahmana. Blessed lady, sacrificing myself does not mean self-destruction for me.' ।। 1-149-7 ।।

barahmavadhyA paraM pApaM niSkRtira nAtra vidyate abuddhipUrvaM kRtvApi zareya Atmavadhò mama || 1-149-7 ||

'Learned individuals have stated that abandoning one who seeks shelter in your house or taking the life of one who wishes to die by your hand is both cruel and sinful.' ।। 1-149-10 ।।

Agatasya gRhe tayAgasa tathaiva zaraNArthinaH yAcamAnasya ca vadhò nRzaMsaM paramaM matama || 1-149-10 ||
