यस तव अस्य सहसा राजन विकारः समपद्यत तेन सुस्राव रेतॊ ऽसय स च तन नावबुध्यत ॥ १-१२०-११ ॥
'O king, by your sudden agitation, this semen has been discharged. He heard it distinctly, but he did not understand it.' ॥ 1-120-11 ॥
english translation
स विहायाश्रमं तं च तां चैवाप्सरसं मुनिः जगाम रेतस तत तस्य शरस्तम्बे पपात ह ॥ १-१२०-१२ ॥
'The sage, leaving behind both the hermitage and the Apsara, ejaculated that semen, which fell upon a clump of reeds.' ॥ 1-120-12 ॥
english translation
शरस्तम्बे च पतितं दविधा तद अभवन नृप तस्याथ मिथुनं जज्ञे गौतमस्य शरद्वतः ॥ १-१२०-१३ ॥
'Having fallen upon a clump of heath, the semen was divided into two parts, from which two children, twins, were born.' ॥ 1-120-13 ॥
english translation
मृगयां चरतॊ राज्ञः शंतनॊस तु यदृच्छया कश चित सेना चरॊ ऽरण्ये मिथुनं तद अपश्यत ॥ १-१२०-१४ ॥
'While roaming in the forest, by chance, King Shantanu saw a certain sage and a woman together in the wilderness.' ॥ 1-120-14 ॥

धनुश च सशरं दृष्ट्वा तथा कृष्णाजिनानि च वयवस्य बराह्मणापत्यं धनुर्वेदान्तगस्य तत स राज्ञे दर्शयाम आस मिथुनं सशरं तदा ॥ १-१२०-१५ ॥
'Observing the bow, arrows, and deer-skin lying on the ground, he surmised that they might belong to a Brahmana adept in archery. Convinced of this, he picked up the children along with the weapons and presented them to the king.' ॥ 1-120-15 ॥
