[वै] दर्शनीयांस ततः पुत्रान पाण्डुः पञ्च महावने तान पश्यन पर्वते रेमे सवबाहुबलपालितान ॥ १-११६-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana narrated, 'As Pandu beheld his five handsome sons flourishing in the serene expanse of the great forest, on the enchanting slopes of the mountain, he felt the strength surge within his arms once more.'' ॥ 1-116-1 ॥
english translation
[vai] darzanIyAMsa tataH putrAna pANDuH paJca mahAvane tAna pazyana parvate reme savabAhubalapAlitAna ॥ 1-116-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसुपुष्पित वने काले कदा चिन मधुमाधवे भूतसंमॊहने राजा सभार्यॊ वयचरद वनम ॥ १-११६-२ ॥
'In the blooming forest during spring, sometime in the sweet Madhumadhava, the king, accompanied by his wives, wandered through the forest, enchanted by the beauty of nature' ॥ 1-116-2 ॥
english translation
supuSpita vane kAle kadA cina madhumAdhave bhUtasaMmòhane rAjA sabhAryò vayacarada vanama ॥ 1-116-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपलाशैस तिलकैश चूतैश चम्पकैः पारिभद्रकैः अन्यैश च बहुभिश वृक्षैः फलपुष्पसमृद्धिभिः ॥ १-११६-३ ॥
'He beheld all around Palasas and Tilakas and Mangoes and Champakas and Parihadrakas and Karnikaras, Asokas and Kesaras and Atimuktas and Kuruvakas with swarms of maddened bees sweetly humming about.' ॥ 1-116-3 ॥

palAzaisa tilakaiza cUtaiza campakaiH pAribhadrakaiH anyaiza ca bahubhiza vRkSaiH phalapuSpasamRddhibhiH ॥ 1-116-3 ॥

'In addition, there were numerous exquisite pools of water adorned with hundreds of fragrant lotuses. Witnessing all this, Pandu succumbed to the gentle allure of desire.' ॥ 1-116-4 ॥

jalasthAnaiza ca vividhaiH padminIbhiza ca zòbhitama pANDòra vanaM tu saMprekSya parajajJe hRdi manmathaH ॥ 1-116-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरहृष्टमनसं तत्र विहरन्तं यथामरम तं माद्र्य अनुजगामैका वसनं बिभ्रती शुभम ॥ १-११६-५ ॥
'With a heart as light as a celestial being, Pandu wandered amidst such scenery, accompanied solely by his wife Madri, dressed in semi-transparent attire.' ॥ 1-116-5 ॥
