तपॊ न कल्कॊ ऽधययनं न कल्कः; सवाभाविकॊ वेद विधिर न कल्कः परसह्य वित्ताहरणं न कल्कस; तान्य एव भावॊपहतानि कल्कः ॥ १-१-२१० ॥
'Austerities are inherently pure, learning is inherently benign, and the Vedic regulations intended for all castes are inherently innocent. Likewise, the pursuit of wealth through diligence is inherently harmless. It is only when these practices are misused and distorted that they transform into sources of harm.'॥ 1-1-210 ॥
