असुखानाम अनाथानां तिर्यग्यॊनिषु वर्तताम स एव राजा भूतानां सर्वेषाम अभवत पिता ॥ १-९४-१६ ॥

sanskrit

'And Santanu was the king and father of all—of those that were miserable and those that had no protectors, of birds and beasts, in fact, of every created thing.' ॥ 1-94-16 ॥

english translation

asukhAnAma anAthAnAM tiryagyòniSu vartatAma sa eva rAjA bhUtAnAM sarveSAma abhavata pitA ॥ 1-94-16 ॥
