[य] अरण्ये वसतॊ यस्य गरामॊ भवति पृष्ठतः गरामे वा वसतॊ ऽरण्यं स मुनिः सयाज जनाधिप ॥ १-८६-९ ॥

'Yayati explained, "Truly, a sage or Muni is one who, residing in the forest, remains close to a settlement, or while living in a settlement, keeps the wilderness near."' ॥ 1-86-9 ॥

[ya] araNye vasatò yasya garAmò bhavati pRSThataH garAme vA vasatò 'raNyaM sa muniH sayAja janAdhipa ॥ 1-86-9 ॥
