जिगीषया ततॊ देवा वव्रिर आङ्गिरसं मुनिम पौरॊहित्येन याज्यार्थे काव्यं तूशनसं परे बराह्मणौ ताव उभौ नित्यम अन्यॊन्यस्पर्धिनौ भृशम ॥ १-७१-६ ॥
'Driven by their quest for triumph, the gods appointed Vrihaspati, the son of Angiras, as their priest to oversee their sacrifices. In response, their adversaries chose the wise Usanas as their priests for similar rites. A significant and boastful rivalry persisted constantly between these two learned Brahmanas.' ॥ 1-71-6 ॥

तत्र देवा निजघ्नुर यान दानवान युधि संगतान तान पुनर जीवयाम आस काव्यॊ विद्या बलाश्रयात ततस ते पुनर उत्थाय यॊधयां चक्रिरे सुरान ॥ १-७१-७ ॥
'Those Danavas (demons) assembled for encounter slain by the gods were all revived by the seer Sukra by the power of his knowledge. And then starting again, into life,--these fought with the gods.' ॥ 1-71-7 ॥
english translation
असुरास तु निजघ्नुर यान सुरान समरमूर्धनि न तान संजीवयाम आस बृहस्पतिर उदारधीः ॥ १-७१-८ ॥
'The Asuras also slew on the field of battle many of the celestials. But the open-minded Vrihaspati could not revive them.' ॥ 1-71-8 ॥
english translation
न हि वेद स तां विद्यां यां काव्यॊ वेद वीर्यवान संजीवनीं ततॊ देवा विषादम अगमन परम ॥ १-७१-९ ॥
'Because he was unfamiliar with the science of Sanjivani (re-vivification), a knowledge well-mastered by the energetically endowed Kavya, the gods found themselves plunged into profound sorrow.' ॥ 1-71-9 ॥
english translation
ते तु देवा भयॊद्विग्नाः काव्याद उशनसस तदा ऊचुः कचम उपागम्य जयेष्ठं पुत्रं बृहस्पतेः ॥ १-७१-१० ॥
'And the gods, in great anxiety of heart and entertaining a fear of the learned Usanas, then went to Kacha, the eldest son of Vrihaspati.' ॥ 1-71-10 ॥
