मृते पितरि ते वीरा वनाद एत्य सवमन्दिरम नचिराद इव विद्वांसॊ वेदे धनुषि चाभवन ॥ १-५५-६ ॥
'On the death of their father those heroes (the Pandavas) came to their own home. And within a short time they became wellversed in archery.' ॥ 1-55-6 ॥
english translation
तांस तथारूपवीर्यौजः संपन्नान पौरसंमतान नामृष्यन कुरवॊ दृष्ट्वा पाण्डवाञ शरीयशॊ भृतः ॥ १-५५-७ ॥
'And the Kurus beholding the Pandavas gifted with physical strength, energy, and power of mind, popular also with the citizens, and blessed with good fortune, became very jealous.' ॥ 1-55-7 ॥

ततॊ दुर्यॊधनः करूरः कर्णश च सहसौबलः तेषां निग्रहनिर्वासान विविधांस ते समाचरन ॥ १-५५-८ ॥
'Then the crookedminded Duryodhana, and Karna, with (the former's uncle) the son of Suvala began to persecute them and devise means for their exile.' ॥ 1-55-8 ॥

ददाव अथ विषं पापॊ भीमाय धृतराष्ट्रजः जरयाम आस तद वीरः सहान्नेन वृकॊदरः ॥ १-५५-९ ॥
'Then the wicked Duryodhana, guided by the counsels of Sakuni (his maternal uncle), persecuted the Pandavas in various ways for the acquirement of undisputed sovereignty. The wicked son of Dhritarashtra gave poison to Bhima, but Bhima of the stomach of the wolf digested the poison with the food.' ॥ 1-55-9 ॥

परमाण कॊट्यां संसुप्तं पुनर बद्ध्वा वृकॊदरम तॊयेषु भीमं गङ्गायाः परक्षिप्य पुरम आव्रजत ॥ १-५५-१० ॥
'Then the wretched again tied the sleeping Bhima on the margin of the Ganges and, casting him into the water, went away.' ॥ 1-55-10 ॥
