सत्यवादी शम परस तपस्वी नियतव्रतः सर्वेषाम एव नॊ मान्यः स तावत परतिपाल्यताम ॥ १-४-६ ॥
'Truthful, self-restrained, and an ascetic dedicated to rigorous penance, he adheres unwaveringly to his vows. Esteemed by all, he is deserving of utmost respect and should be honored accordingly.' ॥ 1-4-6 ॥
english translation
satyavAdI zama parasa tapasvI niyatavrataH sarveSAma eva nò mAnyaH sa tAvata paratipAlyatAma ॥ 1-4-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्मिन्न अध्यासति गुराव आसनं परमार्चितम ततॊ वक्ष्यसि यत तवां स परक्ष्यति दविजसत्तमः ॥ १-४-७ ॥
'Seated with utmost reverence in the presence of such a revered teacher, you may then speak, for what you say shall be esteemed by the noble scholars assembled here.' ॥ 1-4-7 ॥
english translation
tasminna adhyAsati gurAva AsanaM paramArcitama tatò vakSyasi yata tavAM sa parakSyati davijasattamaH ॥ 1-4-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptरसयह उवाच । एवम अस्तु गुरौ तस्मिन्न उपविष्टे महात्मनि तेन पृष्टः कथाः पुण्या वक्ष्यामि विविधाश्रयाः ॥ १-४-८ ॥
'Sauti said, 'Be it so. And when the high-souled master hath been seated I shall narrate, questioned by him, sacred stories on a variety of subjects.' ॥ 1-4-8 ॥

rasayaha uvAca । evama astu gurau tasminna upaviSTe mahAtmani tena pRSTaH kathAH puNyA vakSyAmi vividhAzrayAH ॥ 1-4-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसॊ ऽथ विप्रर्षभः कार्यं कृत्वा सर्वं यथाक्रमम देवान वाग्भिः पितॄन अद्भिस तर्पयित्वाजगाम ह ॥ १-४-९ ॥
'After completing all his duties with precision, the distinguished Brahmana, Saunaka, appeased the gods through prayers and offered libations of water to the ancestors. Subsequently, he returned to the sacred site of the sacrifice.' ॥ 1-4-9 ॥

sò 'tha viprarSabhaH kAryaM kRtvA sarvaM yathAkramama devAna vAgbhiH pitRRna adbhisa tarpayitvAjagAma ha ॥ 1-4-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयत्र बरह्मर्षयः सिद्धास त आसीना यतव्रताः यज्ञायतनम आश्रित्य सूतपुत्र पुरःसराः ॥ १-४-१० ॥
'There, with Sauti in attendance, the assembly of saints, known for their unwavering vows, sat in comfortable repose.' ॥ 1-4-10 ॥
