येन लिङ्गेन यॊ देशॊ युक्तः समुपलक्ष्यते तेनैव नाम्ना तं देशं वाच्यम आहुर मनीषिणः ॥ १-२-८ ॥

sanskrit

'The wise have declared that every country should be distinguished by a name significant of some circumstance which may have rendered it famous.'॥ 1-2-8 ॥

english translation

yena liGgena yò dezò yuktaH samupalakSyate tenaiva nAmnA taM dezaM vAcyama Ahura manISiNaH ॥ 1-2-8 ॥
