येन लिङ्गेन यॊ देशॊ युक्तः समुपलक्ष्यते तेनैव नाम्ना तं देशं वाच्यम आहुर मनीषिणः ।। १-२-८ ।।

sanskrit

'The wise have declared that every country should be distinguished by a name significant of some circumstance which may have rendered it famous.'।। 1-2-8 ।।

english translation

yena liGgena yò dezò yuktaH samupalakSyate tenaiva nAmnA taM dezaM vAcyama Ahura manISiNaH || 1-2-8 ||
