[कर्ण] दुर्यॊधन तव परज्ञा न सम्यग इति मे मतिः न हय उपायेन ते शक्याः पाण्डवाः कुरुनन्दन ॥ १-१९४-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, 'Responding to Duryodhana, Karna said, 'O Duryodhana, your reasoning does not seem well-founded to me. O perpetuator of the Kuru lineage, no method will succeed against the Pandavas.'' ॥ 1-194-1 ॥
english translation
पूर्वम एव हिते सूक्ष्मैर उपायैर यतितास तवया निग्रहीतुं यदा वीर शकिता न तदा तवया ॥ १-१९४-२ ॥
'O brave prince, you have previously endeavored to fulfill your desires through various subtle means. However, you have consistently failed to vanquish your foes.' ॥ 1-194-2 ॥

इहैव वर्तमानास ते समीपे तव पार्थिव अजातपक्षाः शिशवः शकिता नैव बाधितुम ॥ १-१९४-३ ॥
'They were living near you then, O king! They were young and inexperienced, but even then you could not harm them.' ॥ 1-194-3 ॥

जातपक्षा विदेशस्था विवृद्धाः सर्वशॊ ऽदय ते नॊपाय साध्याः कौन्तेया ममैषा मतिर अच्युत ॥ १-१९४-४ ॥
'They are now living afar, matured and fully developed. O resolute one, the sons of Kunti cannot be harmed by any subtle schemes of yours. This is my view.' ॥ 1-194-4 ॥

न च ते वयसनैर यॊक्तुं शक्या दिष्ट कृता हि ते शङ्किताश चेप्सवश चैव पितृपैतामहं पदम ॥ १-१९४-५ ॥
'And it is not possible to dissuade you from this calamity, for this has been decided by you. However, we fear for and deeply desire the honor and esteem of the path trodden by our forefathers and ancestors.' ॥ 1-194-5 ॥
