[वै] ततः सरस्तॊत्तर पटः सप्रस्वेदः सवेपथुः विवेशाधिरथॊ रङ्गं यष्टिप्राणॊ हवयन्न इव ॥ १-१२७-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, 'Then, with his garment loosely draped, Adhiratha entered the arena, his body perspiring and trembling, as he leaned on a staff for support.' ॥ 1-127-1 ॥
english translation
तम आलॊक्य धनुस तयक्त्वा पितृगौरवयन्त्रितः कर्णॊ ऽभिषेकार्द्र शिराः शिरसा समवन्दत ॥ १-१२७-२ ॥
'Seeing him, Karna set aside his bow and, moved by filial respect, bowed his head to his father still damp from the consecration waters.' ॥ 1-127-2 ॥

ततः पादाव अवच्छाद्य पटान्तेन ससंभ्रमः पुत्रेति परिपूर्णार्थम अब्रवीद रथसारथिः ॥ १-१२७-३ ॥
'Then, quickly using the edge of his garment to cover his feet, the charioteer addressed Karna, now crowned with success, as his son.' ॥ 1-127-3 ॥

परिष्वज्य च तस्याथ मूर्धानं सनेहविक्लवः अङ्गराज्याभिषेकार्द्रम अश्रुभिः सिषिचे पुनः ॥ १-१२७-४ ॥
'And the charioteer, overwhelmed with affection, embraced Karna and moistened his head—already damp from his coronation as king of Anga—with tears.' ॥ 1-127-4 ॥

तं दृष्ट्वा सूतपुत्रॊ ऽयम इति निश्चित्य पाण्डवः भीमसेनस तदा वाक्यम अब्रवीत परहसन्न इव ॥ १-१२७-५ ॥
'Upon seeing the charioteer, Pandava Bhimasena mistook Karna for the son of a charioteer, and said mockingly.' ॥ 1-127-5 ॥
