[व] शरुत्वा कुमारं जातं तु देव यानी शुचिस्मिता चिन्तयाम आस दुःखार्ता शर्मिष्ठां परति भारत ॥ १-७८-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana narrated, "Upon learning of the child's birth, Devayani, despite her gentle smiles, was overtaken by jealousy. O Bharata, she harbored bitter thoughts towards Sarmishtha."' ॥ 1-78-1 ॥
