Sundara Kanda chronicles Hanuman's oceanic voyage to Lanka, where he systematically searches Ravana’s palace and the Ashoka grove until locating Sita beneath a Simsupa tree. He identifies himself as Rama’s envoy, presenting a ring as proof, and receives the Chudamani jewel in return. Sita urges rescue, prompting Hanuman to conclude that diplomacy will fail against demons and resolve to employ open assault. After demon forces attack and Hanuman is bound and dragged before Ravana, he delivers a defiant speech. Vibhishana advises against killing the envoy, leading Ravana to order Hanuman’s tail set ablaze. Hanuman escapes, burns the entire city while sparing the royal mansion, and returns to Kishkindha. He reports his success to Sugriva, presents the jewel to Rama, and recounts Sita’s captivity, her abduction, and a past anecdote involving a crow at Chitrakuta.
