तथा विप्रेक्ष्यमाणस्य वनं पुष्पितपादपम् | विचिन्वतश्च वैदेहीं किंचिच्छेषा निशाऽभवत् || ५-१८-१

The night came to a close while Hanuman went searching and looking for Sita at Ashoka grove full of flowering trees. [5-18-1]

tathA viprekSyamANasya vanaM puSpitapAdapam | vicinvatazca vaidehIM kiMciccheSA nizA'bhavat || 5-18-1

षडङ्गवेदविदुषां क्रतुप्रवरयाजिनाम् | शुश्राव ब्रह्मघोषांश्च स विरात्रे ब्रह्मरक्षसाम् || ५-१८-२

At dawn sounds of recitation of Vedas and the six auxillary sciences, (i.e .grammar, prosody, etymology, phonetics, astronomy and the science of rituals) by the brahmins among demons wellversed in performing exalted sacrificial ceremonies were heard. [5-18-2]

अथ मङ्गलवादित्रशब्दैः श्रुतिमनोहरैः | प्राबुध्यत महाबाहुर्दशग्रीवो महाबलः || ५-१८-३

By that time the strongarmed, powerful, ten-necked Ravana was awakened by the delightful sounds of auspicious musical instruments. [5-18-3]

atha maGgalavAditrazabdaiH zrutimanoharaiH | prAbudhyata mahAbAhurdazagrIvo mahAbalaH || 5-18-3

विबुध्यतु यथाकालं राक्षसेन्द्रः प्रतापवान् | स्रस्तमाल्याम्बरधरो वैदेहीमन्वचिन्तयत् || ५-१८-४

The chivalrous lord of demons woke up as usual. His raiment and garland were still in disarray and he thought of Vaidehi. [5-18-4]

vibudhyatu yathAkAlaM rAkSasendraH pratApavAn | srastamAlyAmbaradharo vaidehImanvacintayat || 5-18-4

भृशं नियुक्तस्तस्यां च मदनेन मदोत्कटः | न स तं राक्षसः कामं शशाकात्मनि गूहितुम् || ५-१८-५

The demon king who was unable to hide his great passion and control his senses was drawn towards Sita, in his state of intoxication. [5-18-5]

bhRzaM niyuktastasyAM ca madanena madotkaTaH | na sa taM rAkSasaH kAmaM zazAkAtmani gUhitum || 5-18-5
