ताम्यमानस्स मां कृच्छ्रादुवाच परमार्तवत् | सीदमानो विवृत्ताङ्गो वेष्टमानो गतः क्षयम् || २-६३-५१

Suffering from excruciating pain, sinking with his limbs twisting and writhing and plunging into death and destruction, with intense agony he uttered the following words with great difficulty to me : - [2-63-51]

tAmyamAnassa mAM kRcchrAduvAca paramArtavat | sIdamAno vivRttAGgo veSTamAno gataH kSayam || 2-63-51

संस्तभ्य शोकं धैर्येण स्थिरचित्तो भवाम्यहम् | ब्रह्महत्याकृतं पापं हृदयादपनीयताम् || २-६३-५२

- 'I am now calm. I bear my pain with patience. Remove the fear from your mind that you have committed a sin by slaying a brahmin.' [2-63-52]

english translation

saMstabhya zokaM dhairyeNa sthiracitto bhavAmyaham | brahmahatyAkRtaM pApaM hRdayAdapanIyatAm || 2-63-52

न द्विजातिरहं राजन्मा भूत्ते मनसो व्यथा | शूद्रायामस्मि वैश्येन जातो जनपदाधिप || २-६३-५३

'Oh ! king Dasaratha, lord of the land, I am not a brahmin. Feel no sense of guilt in your mind. I was born of a shudra mother and a vaishya father.' [2-63-53]

na dvijAtirahaM rAjanmA bhUtte manaso vyathA | zUdrAyAmasmi vaizyena jAto janapadAdhipa || 2-63-53

इतीव वदतः कृच्छ्राद्बाणाभिहतमर्मणः विघूर्णतो विचेष्टस्य वेपमानस्य भूतले | तस्यत्वानम्यमानस्य तं बाणमहमुद्धरम् स मामुद्वीक्ष्य सन्त्रस्तो जहौ प्राणांस्तपोधनः || २-६३-५४

While that ascetic struck by the arrow in the vital part of the body, trembling, turning and rolling on the ground writhing in pain spoke these words to me, I bent down and pulled out the arrow from his body. I was frightened when he looked up at me and gave up his life. [2-63-54]

itIva vadataH kRcchrAdbANAbhihatamarmaNaH vighUrNato viceSTasya vepamAnasya bhUtale | tasyatvAnamyamAnasya taM bANamahamuddharam sa mAmudvIkSya santrasto jahau prANAMstapodhanaH || 2-63-54

जलार्द्रगात्रन्तु विलप्य कृच्छ्रान्मर्मव्रणं सन्ततमुच्छवसन्तम् | तत स्सरय्वां तमहं शयानं समीक्ष्य भद्रेऽस्मि भृशं विषण्णः || २-६३-५५

Oh ! gentle Kausalya having seen him crying due to the pain caused by the wound in the vital part, sighing ceaselessly, drenched in water and lying on the bank of river Sarayu, I was greatly shaken. [2-63-55]

jalArdragAtrantu vilapya kRcchrAnmarmavraNaM santatamucchavasantam | tata ssarayvAM tamahaM zayAnaM samIkSya bhadre'smi bhRzaM viSaNNaH || 2-63-55
