सन्दिश्य रामं नृपतिः श्वोभाविन्यभिषेचने । पुरोहितं समाहूय वसिष्ठमिदमब्रवीत् ॥ २-५-१
After Rama left, king Dasaratha called for his family priest Vasishta and spoke to him as follows about the ensuing anointment ceremony of the next day. - [2-5-1]
english translation
गच्छोपवासं काकुत्थ्सं कारयाद्य तपोधन । श्रीयशोराज्यलाभाय वध्वा सह यतव्रतम् ॥ २-५-२
- 'Oh ! great sage ( Vasishtha, whose wealth is asceticism ), Please go to the Rama engaged in strict observance of vows and advise him along with Sita, my daughterinlaw to undertake fast for securing prosperity, glory and sovereignty.' [2-5-2]
english translation
तथेति च स राजानमुक्त्वा वेदविदां वरः । स्वयं वसिष्ठो भगवान् ययौ रामनिवेशनम् ॥ २-५-३
Venerabel Vasistha, the best amongst the knowers of the Vedas, said to the king ( Dasharatha ), 'Be it so.' and proceeded personally to the abode of Rama. [2-5-3]
english translation
उपवासयितुं रामं मन्त्रवन्मन्त्रकोविदः । ब्राह्मं रथवरं युक्तमास्थाय सुदृधव्रतः ॥ २-५-४
He ( Vasishtha ) mounted on the best of the chariots befitting a brahmin ( with horses harnessed ), to ask him ( Rama ) who was skilled in mantras and firm in his vows, to undertake a fast in accompaniment with mantras. [2-5-4]
english translation
स रामभवनं प्रप्य पाण्डुराभ्रघनप्रभम् । तिस्रः कक्ष्या र्थेनैव विवेश मुनिसत्तमः ॥ २-५-५
Having crossed the three courtyards in the chariot, that foremost of ascetics (Vasistha) entered Rams's abode, shining like a mass of white clouds. [2-5-5]
