वधमप्रतिरूपं तु महर्षेस्तस्य राघवः | विलपन्नेव धर्मात्मा कौसल्यां पुनरब्रवीत् || २-६४-१

Grieving for having unfairly killed the great sage the rightenous descendant of the Raghus (Dasaratha) continued to tell Kausalya about it : - [2-64-1]

english translation

vadhamapratirUpaM tu maharSestasya rAghavaH | vilapanneva dharmAtmA kausalyAM punarabravIt || 2-64-1

hk transliteration

तदज्ञानान्महत्पापं कृत्वाहं सङ्कुलेन्द्रियः | एकस्त्वचिन्तयं बुध्या कथं नु सुकृतं भवेत् || २-६४-२

sanskrit

- 'Having committed the sin unwittingly, I was greatly agitated. I reflected in my mind as to how to atone for this great sin. [2-64-2]

english translation

tadajJAnAnmahatpApaM kRtvAhaM saGkulendriyaH | ekastvacintayaM budhyA kathaM nu sukRtaM bhavet || 2-64-2

hk transliteration

ततस्तं घटमादाय पूर्णं परमवारिणा | आश्रमं तमहं प्राप्य यथाऽख्यातपथं गतः || २-६४-३

sanskrit

Holding the pot filled with clean water I reached the hermitage following the path as directed. [2-64-3]

english translation

tatastaM ghaTamAdAya pUrNaM paramavAriNA | AzramaM tamahaM prApya yathA'khyAtapathaM gataH || 2-64-3

तत्राहं दुर्बलावन्धौ वृद्धावपरिणायकौ | अपश्यं तस्य पितरौ लूनपक्षाविव द्विजौ || २-६४-४

There I found his weak, blind, old parents. With no supporter, they looked like birds with clipped wings. [2-64-4]

tatrAhaM durbalAvandhau vRddhAvapariNAyakau | apazyaM tasya pitarau lUnapakSAviva dvijau || 2-64-4

तन्निमित्ताभिरासीनौ कथाभिरपरिश्रमौ | तामाशां मत्कृते हीनावुदासीनावनाथवत् || २-६४-५

sanskrit

They sat there helplessly like orphans and passively talking about their son, their only hope that I have deprived them of. [2-64-5]
