श्रुत्वा तु राजा कैकेय्या वृतम् परमशोभनम् । रामस्य च वने वासमैश्वर्यम् भरतस्य च ॥ २-१२-५१
Having heard of the highly unfair demands by Kaikeyi for Rama's exile to the forest and Bharata's prosperity (enthronement) - ॥ 2-12-51॥
english translation
zrutvA tu rAjA kaikeyyA vRtam paramazobhanam । rAmasya ca vane vAsamaizvaryam bharatasya ca ॥ 2-12-51
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनाभ्यभाषत कैकेय्यिम् मुहूर्तम् व्याकुलेन्द्रियः । प्रैक्षतानिमिषो देवीम् प्रियामप्रियवादिनीम् ॥ २-१२-५२
- the king was dumbstruck for a while with his senses agitated. He did not speak to Kaikeyi, but ( intently ) fixed his gaze at his beloved queen speaking unpleasant words. ॥ 2-12-52॥
english translation
nAbhyabhASata kaikeyyim muhUrtam vyAkulendriyaH । praikSatAnimiSo devIm priyAmapriyavAdinIm ॥ 2-12-52
hk transliteration by Sanscriptताम् हि वज्रसमाम् वाचमाकर्ण्य हृदया प्रियाम् । दुःखशोकमयीम् घोराम् राजा न सुखितोऽभवत् ॥ २-१२-५३
Having listened those words, unpleasant to the heart like the dreadful thunderbolt, charged with grief and anguish the king was unhappy. ॥ 2-12-53॥
english translation
tAm hi vajrasamAm vAcamAkarNya hRdayA priyAm । duHkhazokamayIm ghorAm rAjA na sukhito'bhavat ॥ 2-12-53
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस देव्या व्यवसायम् च घोरम् च शपथम् कृतम् । ध्यात्वा रामेति निश्श्वस्य छिन्नस्तरुरिवापतत् ॥ २-१२-५४
Reflecting on the determination of the queen and her dreadful vow, the king sighed and cried, 'Oh ! Rama' and then fell down like a tree severed. ॥ 2-12-54॥
english translation
sa devyA vyavasAyam ca ghoram ca zapatham kRtam । dhyAtvA rAmeti nizzvasya chinnastarurivApatat ॥ 2-12-54
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनष्टचित्तो यथोन्मत्तो विपरीतो यथातुरः । हृततेजा यथा सर्पो बभूव जगतीपतिः ॥ २-१२-५५
The lord of the earth (Dasharatha) became like a man with the mind deranged, like a sick man behaving to the contrary, like a serpent with its energy drained (through mantra). ॥ 2-12-55॥

naSTacitto yathonmatto viparIto yathAturaH । hRtatejA yathA sarpo babhUva jagatIpatiH ॥ 2-12-55
