I see the unswept homes of householders standing dirty with doors not closed, bereft of splendour on all sides. [2-71-37]

बलिकर्मविहीनानि धूपसम्मोदनेन च | अनाशितकुटुम्बानि प्रभाहीनजनानि च || २-७१-३८

No one offers oblations (at the time of worship). There is no fragrance of burning incense. The families have not eaten food. The people look cheerless. [2-71-38]

I see inauspiciousness in the houses of families. The floors of front yards are left unswept and unsmeared, devoid of the beauty of floral garlands. [2-71-39]

देवागाराणि शून्यानि न चाभान्ति यथापुरम् | देवतार्चाः प्रविद्धाश्च यज्ञगोष्ठ्यस्तथाविधाः || २-७१-४०

The temples look deserted, devoid of brightness of the past. The offerings to deities have been dispensed with. There are no groups of people performing the usual holy sacrifices. [2-71-40]
