Dasharatha, the mighty king like Parjanya (the raingod), lord of the earth used to shower favours on earth. But now he is bound by the noose of passion. [2-31-12]
सा हि राज्यमिदं प्राप्य नृपस्याश्वपते स्सुता | दुःखितानां सपत्नीनां न करिष्यति शोभनम् || २-३१-१३
Once the daughter of king Ashwapati (Kaikeyi) gains control over the kingdom, she will do nothing to help her afflicted co-wives (Kausalya and Sumitra). [2-31-13]
तामार्यां स्वयमेवेह राजानुग्रहणेन वा | सौमित्रे भर कौशल्यामुक्तमर्थमिमं चर || २-३१-१५
Either by yourself or by seeking the favour of the king, Oh ! son of Sumitra, lend support to venerable Kausalya. This is the objective you must accomplish. [2-31-15]
