Mounted on a chariot, attached with a fender and driven by horses, the charioteer ( Sumantra ) advanced towards the royal palace of Rama, beautifying the human and the royal races, delighting the minds of the people of the city. [2-15-41]

sa vAjiyuktena rathena sArathi | rnarAkulaM rAjakulam virAjayan | varUthinA rAmagRhAbhipAtinA | purasya sarvasya manAMsi harzayan || 2-15-41

ततस्समासाद्य महाधनं महत् | प्रहृष्टरोमा स बभूव सारथिः | मृगैर्मयूरैश्च समाकुलोल्बणं | गृहं वरार्हस्य शचीपतेरिव || २-१५-४२

Having reached the palace abounding in deer and peacocks which resembled the magnificent and opulent abode of Indra, the charioteer was thrilled at the allpervading beauty of the place befitting Rama. [2-15-42]

स तत्र कैलासनिभाः स्वलंकृताः | प्रविश्य कक्ष्यास्त्रिदशालयोपमाः | प्रियान् वरान् राममते स्थितान् बहून् | व्यपोह्य शुद्धांतमुपस्थितो रथी || २-१५-४३

Having entered the welldecorated palace which was (lofty) like Kailasa, he crossed the courtyards comparable to the abode of the celestials, passed through the many bosom friends of Rama and entered the private apartment. [2-15-43]

sa tatra kailAsanibhAH svalaMkRtAH | pravizya kakSyAstridazAlayopamAH | priyAn varAn rAmamate sthitAn bahUn | vyapohya zuddhAMtamupasthito rathI || 2-15-43

स तत्र शुश्राव च हर्षयुक्ता | रामाभिषेकार्थकृता जनानां | नरेंद्रसूनोरभिमंगळार्थाः | सर्वस्य लोकस्य गिरः प्रहृष्टः || २-१५-४४

There he heard the happy words spoken by people involved in the act of the enthronement of prince Rama, which was for his future wellbeing and all ( other ) people's word which was full of delight. [2-15-44]

महेंद्रसद्मप्रतिमं तु वेश्म | रामस्य रम्यं मृगपक्षिजुष्टं | ददर्श मेरोरिव शृंगमुच्चं | विभ्राजमानं प्रभया सुमम्त्रः || २-१५-४५

Sumantra beheld Rama's palace which resembled the abode of Indra, filled with animals and birds. It looked like the high summit of mount Meru shining with splendour. [2-15-45]

maheMdrasadmapratimaM tu vezma | rAmasya ramyaM mRgapakSijuSTaM | dadarza meroriva zRMgamuccaM | vibhrAjamAnaM prabhayA sumamtraH || 2-15-45
