पुत्र शोक अर्दितम् पापा विसम्ज्ञम् पतितम् भुवि । विवेष्टमानम् उदीक्ष्य सा ऐक्ष्वाकम् इदम् अब्रवीत् ॥ २-१४-१
The evil woman (Kaikeyi) said to the king of the Ikshvaku race (Dasaratha) who lay unconscious on the floor writhing and tormented with grief on account of his son. - ॥ 2-14-1॥
english translation
putra zoka arditam pApA visamjJam patitam bhuvi । viveSTamAnam udIkSya sA aikSvAkam idam abravIt ॥ 2-14-1
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपापम् क्ऱ्त्वा इव किम् इदम् मम संश्रुत्य संश्रवम् । शेषे क्षिति तले सन्नः स्थित्याम् स्थातुम् त्वम् अर्हसि ॥ २-१४-२
- '(Kaikeyi said) What is this? After hearing my response to the promised boon, why are you lying down on the floor dejected as if you had committed a sin? It behoves you to maintain your status. ॥ 2-14-2॥
english translation
pApam kr2tvA iva kim idam mama saMzrutya saMzravam । zeSe kSiti tale sannaH sthityAm sthAtum tvam arhasi ॥ 2-14-2
hk transliteration by Sanscriptआहुः सत्यम् हि परमम् धर्मम् धर्मविदो जनाः । सत्यम् आश्रित्य हि मया त्वम् च धर्मम् प्रचोदितः ॥२-१४-३
Those conversant with righteousness say that truth is a great virtue. By following the truth, I have enlightened you about your duty. ॥ 2-14-3॥
english translation
AhuH satyam hi paramam dharmam dharmavido janAH । satyam Azritya hi mayA tvam ca dharmam pracoditaH ॥2-14-3
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसंश्रुत्य शैब्यः श्येनाय स्वाम् तनुम् जगती पतिः । प्रदाय पक्षिणो राजन् जगाम गतिम् उत्तमाम् ॥ २-१४-४
Oh ! King, the Ruler of the earth (king) Shaibya attained the highest state by offering his own body to a hawk in accordance with his promise. ॥ 2-14-4॥
english translation
saMzrutya zaibyaH zyenAya svAm tanum jagatI patiH । pradAya pakSiNo rAjan jagAma gatim uttamAm ॥ 2-14-4
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतथ हि अलर्कः तेजस्वी ब्राह्मणे वेद पारगे । याचमाने स्वके नेत्रेउद्ध्ऱ्त्य अविमना ददौ ॥ २-१४-५
In the same way the lustrous king Alarka, on being solicited by a brahmin who was an adept in the Vedas, plucked his own eyes and gave them to him without hesitation. ॥ 2-14-5॥
english translation
tatha hi alarkaH tejasvI brAhmaNe veda pArage । yAcamAne svake netreuddhr2tya avimanA dadau ॥ 2-14-5
