नाराजके जनपदे नराश्शास्त्रविशारदाः | संवदन्तोऽवतिष्ठन्ते वनेषूपवनेषु च || २-६७-२६

In a country with no king people proficient in scriptures can not stay to the forests and (recreational) gardens for debates (on scriptures). [2-67-26]

english translation

nArAjake janapade narAzzAstravizAradAH | saMvadanto'vatiSThante vaneSUpavaneSu ca || 2-67-26

hk transliteration

नाराजके जनपदे माल्यमोदकदक्षिणाः | देवताभ्यर्चनार्थाय कल्प्यन्ते नियतैर्जनैः || २-६७-२७

sanskrit

In a country where there is no king, people who are disciplined in spiritual practices do not offer garlands of flowers, sweetmeats and alms while worshipping gods. [2-67-27]

english translation

nArAjake janapade mAlyamodakadakSiNAH | devatAbhyarcanArthAya kalpyante niyatairjanaiH || 2-67-27

नाराजके जनपदे चन्दनागरुरूषिताः | राजपुत्रा विराजन्ते वसन्त इव शाखिनः || २-६७-२८

sanskrit

In a country where there is no king, the princes, anointed with sandal paste and agaru, no longer look graceful like blossoming trees in spring time. [2-67-28]

english translation

nArAjake janapade candanAgarurUSitAH | rAjaputrA virAjante vasanta iva zAkhinaH || 2-67-28

यथा ह्यनुदका नद्यः यथा वाऽप्यतृणं वनम् | अगोपाला यथा गावस्तथा राष्ट्रमराजकम् || २-६७-२९

sanskrit

The kingdom ( without a king) is like rivers without water, forests without vegetation and cows without cowherds. [2-67-29]

english translation

yathA hyanudakA nadyaH yathA vA'pyatRNaM vanam | agopAlA yathA gAvastathA rASTramarAjakam || 2-67-29

ध्वजो रथस्य प्रज्ञानं धूमो ज्ञानं विभावसोः | तेषां यो नो ध्वजो राजा स देवत्वमितो गतः || २-६७-३०

sanskrit

The pennant is an identification for one's chariot. Smoke is a mark of identifying fire. All of us are recognised by the pennant (magnanimity) of the king and such a king has gone to heaven. [2-67-30]

english translation

dhvajo rathasya prajJAnaM dhUmo jJAnaM vibhAvasoH | teSAM yo no dhvajo rAjA sa devatvamito gataH || 2-67-30
