यो नः सदा पालयति पिता पुत्रानिवौरसान् । कथं रघूणां स श्रेष्ठस्त्यक्त्वा नो विपिनं गतः ॥ २-४७-६
How could he, the best among the kings of Raghu dynasty, who used to protect us as a father protects his own children, go to the forest, abandoning us? ॥ 2-47-6॥
english translation
yo naH sadA pAlayati pitA putrAnivaurasAn । kathaM raghUNAM sa zreSThastyaktvA no vipinaM gataH ॥ 2-47-6
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइहैव निधनं यामो महाप्रस्थानमेव वा । रामेण रहितानां हि किमर्थं जीवितं हि नः ॥ २-४७-७
We all will die here. We will go on the everlasting journey to death. Of what use is this life to us without Rama? ॥ 2-47-7॥
english translation
ihaiva nidhanaM yAmo mahAprasthAnameva vA । rAmeNa rahitAnAM hi kimarthaM jIvitaM hi naH ॥ 2-47-7
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसन्ति शुष्काणि काष्ठानि प्रभूतानि महान्ति च । तैः प्रज्वाल्य चितां सर्वे प्रविशामोऽथ पावकम् ॥ २-४७-८
There are plenty of dry logs of wood. We will prepare a pyre with them, set fire to it and we all will enter it. ॥ 2-47-8॥
english translation
santi zuSkANi kASThAni prabhUtAni mahAnti ca । taiH prajvAlya citAM sarve pravizAmo'tha pAvakam ॥ 2-47-8
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकिं वक्ष्यामो महाबाहुरनसूयः प्रियंवदः । नीतः स राघवोऽस्माभिरिति वक्तुं कथं क्षमम् ॥ २-४७-९
What shall we say (to the people)? How can we say, 'We have conducted him (to the forest), that scion of the Raghus ( Rama ), that mighty-armed Rama, who is of gentle speech and free from malice? ॥ 2-47-9॥
english translation
kiM vakSyAmo mahAbAhuranasUyaH priyaMvadaH । nItaH sa rAghavo'smAbhiriti vaktuM kathaM kSamam ॥ 2-47-9
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसा नूनं नगरी दीना दृष्ट्वाऽस्मान् राघवं विना । भविष्यति निरानन्दा सस्त्रीबालवयोधिका ॥ २-४७-१०
Seeing us return without Rama, the women, children and the aged of the city (Ayodhya) will certainly feel miserable and cheerless. ॥ 2-47-10॥

sA nUnaM nagarI dInA dRSTvA'smAn rAghavaM vinA । bhaviSyati nirAnandA sastrIbAlavayodhikA ॥ 2-47-10
