अनुरक्ता महात्मानं रामं सत्यपराक्रमम् । अनुजग्मुः प्रयान्तं तं वनवासाय मानवाः ॥ २-४५-१
When the highsouled Rama whose strength was his sense of truth set out for the forest, the faithful people followed him. [2-45-1]
english translation
निवर्तितेऽपि च बलात्सुहृद्वर्गे च राजनि । नैव ते संन्यवर्तन्त रामस्यानुगता रथम् ॥ २-४५-२
The king and the hosts of friends were forcibly sent back but they did not return. They continued to follow the chariot of Rama. [2-45-2]
english translation
अयोध्यानिलयानां हि पुरुषाणां महायशाः । बभूव गुणसम्पन्नः पूर्णचन्द्र इव प्रियः ॥ २-४५-३
The illustrious and virtuous Rama was as dear to the inhabitants of Ayodhya as the full Moon. [2-45-3]
english translation
स याच्यमानः काकुत्स्थः स्वाभिः प्रकृतिभिस्तदा । कुर्वाणः पितरं सत्यं वनमेवान्वपद्यत ॥ २-४५-४
Although entreated by his subjects (not to go) Rama proceeded to the forest to make his father's vow come true. [2-45-4]
english translation
अवेक्षमाणः सस्नेहं चक्षुषा प्रपिबन्निव । उवाच रामः स्नेहेन ताः प्रजाः स्वाः प्रजा इव ॥ २-४५-५
Looking at the people with love as if they were his own children and as though drinking them with his glances, Rama appealed to them [2-45-5]
