प्रययौ तूरमास्थाय राघवो ज्वलितः श्रिया । स पर्जन्य इवाकाशे स्वनवानभिनादयन् ॥ २-१६-३१

- Rama, ablaze with royal splendour, mounted this chariot and went forth quickly. That ( the chariot ), rumbling like a storm-cloud in the sky - ॥ 2-16-31॥

english translation

prayayau tUramAsthAya rAghavo jvalitaH zriyA । sa parjanya ivAkAze svanavAnabhinAdayan ॥ 2-16-31

निकेतान्निर्ययौ श्रिमान् महाभ्रादिव चन्द्रमाः । चित्रचामरपाणिस्तु लक्ष्मणो राघवानुजः ॥२-१६-३२

- the magnificent one ( chariot ) emerged from (Rama's) residence like the Moon peeping through a huge cloud. Holding an umbrella and a fan made of yak's tail in his hand, Lakshmana, Rama's younger . - ॥ 2-16-32॥

niketAnniryayau zrimAn mahAbhrAdiva candramAH । citracAmarapANistu lakSmaNo rAghavAnujaH ॥2-16-32

जुगोप भ्रातरं भ्राता रथमास्थाय पृष्ठतः । ततो हलहलाशब्दस्तुमुलह् समजायत ॥२-१६-३३

- brother boarded the chariot at the rear, guarding his brother. Then a tumultuous roaring sound emanated . - ॥ 2-16-33॥

english translation

jugopa bhrAtaraM bhrAtA rathamAsthAya pRSThataH । tato halahalAzabdastumulah samajAyata ॥2-16-33

तस्य निष्क्रममाणस्य जनौघस्य समन्ततः । ततो हयवरा मुख्या नागाश्च गिरिसन्निभाः ॥ २-१६-३४

- from the multitude of people all around, as it (the chariot) was passing out. Afterwards, the chief commanders riding the best of the horses and elephants - ॥ 2-16-34॥

tasya niSkramamANasya janaughasya samantataH । tato hayavarA mukhyA nAgAzca girisannibhAH ॥ 2-16-34

अनुजग्मुस्तदा रामं शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः । अग्रतश्चास्य सन्नद्धाश्चन्दनागुरुभूषिताः ॥ २-१६-३५

- resembling hills in size, then followed Rama in their hundreds and thousands. Ahead of him ( Rama ), anointing their bodies with pastes of sandal and aloe wood, equipped with armour . - ॥ 2-16-35॥

anujagmustadA rAmaM zatazo'tha sahasrazaH । agratazcAsya sannaddhAzcandanAgurubhUSitAH ॥ 2-16-35
