स तु संज्ञां पुनर्लब्ध्वा नेत्राभ्यामस्रमुत्सृजन् । उपाक्रामत काकुत्स्थ कृपणं बहु भाषितुम् ॥ २-१०२-६

On regaining consciousness, shedding tears profusely, Rama again started speaking piteously. ॥ 2-102-6॥

स रामः स्वर्गतं श्रुत्वा पितरम् पृथिवीपतिम् । उवाच भरतं वाक्यं धर्मात्मा धर्मसंहितम् ॥ २-१०२-७

On hearing that his father, king Dasaratha, the lord of the world had attained heaven, righteous Rama said to Bharata in conformty with his rightful conduct. ॥ 2-102-7॥

sa rAmaH svargataM zrutvA pitaram pRthivIpatim । uvAca bharataM vAkyaM dharmAtmA dharmasaMhitam ॥ 2-102-7

किं करिष्याम्ययोध्यायां ताते दिष्टां गतिं गते । कस्तां राजवराध्दीनामयोध्यां पालयिष्यति ॥ २-१०२-८

- 'What shall I do in Ayodhya now that my father has followed the path ordained by the gods? Who will rule that Ayodhya deprived of that best of kings? ॥ 2-102-8॥

kiM kariSyAmyayodhyAyAM tAte diSTAM gatiM gate । kastAM rAjavarAdhdInAmayodhyAM pAlayiSyati ॥ 2-102-8

किं नु तस्य मया कार्यं दुर्जातेन महात्मनः । यो मृतो मम शोकेन मया चापि न संस्कृतः ॥ २-१०२-९

I could not even perform the last rites of that magnanimous one who died of grief on account of me. What use is my life with an unlucky birth? ॥ 2-102-9॥

kiM nu tasya mayA kAryaM durjAtena mahAtmanaH । yo mRto mama zokena mayA cApi na saMskRtaH ॥ 2-102-9

अहो भरत सिद्धार्थो येन राजा त्वयाऽनघ । शत्रुघ्नेन च सर्वेषु प्रेतकृत्येषु सत्कृतः ॥ २-१०२-१०

Oh ! irreproachable Bharata, it is gratifying that you and Satrughna are indeed fortunate to have fulfilled your cherished desire since the king was wellhonoured by you with all the obsequial rites. ॥ 2-102-10॥

aho bharata siddhArtho yena rAjA tvayA'nagha । zatrughnena ca sarveSu pretakRtyeSu satkRtaH ॥ 2-102-10
