पित्रा नियुक्ता भगवन् प्रवेक्ष्यामस्तपोवनम् । धर्ममेव चरिष्याम स्तत्र मूलफलाशनाः ॥ २-५४-१६
Oh ! venerable one on my father's command we entered the desolate forest of penance. Subsisting on roots and fruits, I shall practise the righteous way of life.' ॥ 2-54-16॥
english translation
pitrA niyuktA bhagavan pravekSyAmastapovanam । dharmameva cariSyAma statra mUlaphalAzanAH ॥ 2-54-16
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा राजपुत्रस्य धीमतः । उपानयत धर्मात्मा गामर्घ्यमुदकं ततः ॥ २-५४-१७
Hearing the words of that virtuous prince (Rama), the pious minded sage Bharadwaja then offered Madhuparka (offering to a guest) as well as water to wash his hands with. ॥ 2-54-17॥
english translation
tasya tadvacanaM zrutvA rAjaputrasya dhImataH । upAnayata dharmAtmA gAmarghyamudakaM tataH ॥ 2-54-17
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनानाविधानन्नरसान् वन्यमूलफलाश्रयान् । तेभ्यो ददौ तप्ततपा वासं चैवाभ्यकल्पयत् ॥ २-५४-१८
The ascetic who practised severe penance offered them different kinds of food and drink made from roots and fruits available in the forest. He also provided them a place to rest in. ॥ 2-54-18॥
english translation
nAnAvidhAnannarasAn vanyamUlaphalAzrayAn । tebhyo dadau taptatapA vAsaM caivAbhyakalpayat ॥ 2-54-18
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमृगपक्षिभिरासीनो मुनिभिश्च समन्ततः । राममागतमभ्यर्च्य स्वागतेनाहतं मुनिः ॥ २-५४-१९
There the sage sat, surrounded by hermits, animals and birds after having welcomed Rama with due honour. ॥ 2-54-19॥

mRgapakSibhirAsIno munibhizca samantataH । rAmamAgatamabhyarcya svAgatenAhataM muniH ॥ 2-54-19
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रतिगृह्य च तामर्चामुपविष्टं स राघवम् । भरद्वाजोऽब्रवीद्वाक्यं धर्मयुक्तमिदं तदा ॥ २-५४-२०
Rama accepted the hospitality of Bharadwaja and took a seat in front of the sage, who spoke to him these words in conformity with righteousness ॥ 2-54-20॥

pratigRhya ca tAmarcAmupaviSTaM sa rAghavam । bharadvAjo'bravIdvAkyaM dharmayuktamidaM tadA ॥ 2-54-20
