ततस्तु तमसातीरं रम्यमाश्रित्य राघवः | सीतामुद्वीक्ष्य सौमित्रिमिदं वचनमब्रवीत् || २-४६-१

The scion of the Raghus (Rama), having taken shelter on the lovely bank of Tamasa, glanced at Sita and said to Lakshmana thus : - [2-46-1]

english translation

tatastu tamasAtIraM ramyamAzritya rAghavaH | sItAmudvIkSya saumitrimidaM vacanamabravIt || 2-46-1

hk transliteration

इयमद्य निशा पूर्वा सौमित्रे प्रहिता वनम् | वनवासस्य भद्रं ते स नोत्कण्ठितुमर्हसि || २-४६-२

sanskrit

- 'Oh ! Lakshmana, this happens to be the first night of our exile. You should not have any longing in your mind. Wish you well. [2-46-2]

english translation

iyamadya nizA pUrvA saumitre prahitA vanam | vanavAsasya bhadraM te sa notkaNThitumarhasi || 2-46-2

hk transliteration

पश्य शून्यान्यरण्यानि रुदन्तीव समन्ततः | यथानिलयमायद्भिर्निलीनानि मृगद्विजैः || २-४६-३

Look at the deserted forest. The wild animals and birds have returned to their hideouts. They fill the air with their cries. [2-46-3]

english translation

pazya zUnyAnyaraNyAni rudantIva samantataH | yathAnilayamAyadbhirnilInAni mRgadvijaiH || 2-46-3

hk transliteration

अद्यायोध्या तु नगरी राजधानी पितुर्मम | सस्त्रीपुंसा गतानस्माञ्शोचिष्यति न संशयः || २-४६-४

sanskrit

There is no doubt that now the men and women of Ayodhya, father's capital city must be bewailing our departure. [2-46-4]

english translation

adyAyodhyA tu nagarI rAjadhAnI piturmama | sastrIpuMsA gatAnasmAJzociSyati na saMzayaH || 2-46-4

hk transliteration

अनुरक्ता हि मनुजा राजानं बहुभिर्गुणैः | त्वां च मां च नरव्याघ्र शत्रुघ्न भरतौ तथा || २-४६-५

sanskrit

Oh ! best of men because of our many virtues, the people (of Ayodhya) are indeed loyal to the king, to you, to me and to Shatrughna and Bharata, too. [2-46-5]

english translation

anuraktA hi manujA rAjAnaM bahubhirguNaiH | tvAM ca mAM ca naravyAghra zatrughna bharatau tathA || 2-46-5
