तथा तु विलपन्तीं तां कौसल्यां राममातरम् । उवाच लक्ष्मणो दीनस्तत्कालसदृशं वचः ॥ २-२१-१
While Rama's mother, Kausalya was lamenting, miserable Lakshmana said to her these words appropriate to the occasion ॥ 2-21-1॥
english translation
tathA tu vilapantIM tAM kausalyAM rAmamAtaram । uvAca lakSmaNo dInastatkAlasadRzaM vacaH ॥ 2-21-1
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन रोचते ममाप्येतदार्ये यद्राघवो वनम् । त्यक्त्वा राज्य श्रियम् गच्चेत् स्त्रिया वाक्य वशम् गतः ॥ २-२१-२
- 'Oh ! venerable one ( Kausalya ), I do not like that Raaghava ( Rama ) should go to the forest, yielding to the words of a woman and renouncing the welfare of the kingdom. ॥ 2-21-2॥
english translation
na rocate mamApyetadArye yadrAghavo vanam । tyaktvA rAjya zriyam gaccet striyA vAkya vazam gataH ॥ 2-21-2
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविपरीतः च वृद्धः च विषयैः च प्रधर्षितः । नृपः किम् इव न ब्रूयाच् चोद्यमानः समन्मथः ॥ २-२१-३
The king has a perverse nature. He is aged. He is overpowered by passions. He is under the spell of carnal pleasures and is incited (by Kaikeyi). Such a man can speak anything. ॥ 2-21-3॥
english translation
viparItaH ca vRddhaH ca viSayaiH ca pradharSitaH । nRpaH kim iva na brUyAc codyamAnaH samanmathaH ॥ 2-21-3
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनास्यापराधं पश्यामि नापि दोषं तथाविधम् । येन निर्वास्यते राष्ट्राद्वनवासाय राघवः ॥ २-२१-४
I do not see any fault in Raaghava ( Rama ) nor any offence committed by him for which he is exiled from the kingdom. ॥ 2-21-4॥
english translation
nAsyAparAdhaM pazyAmi nApi doSaM tathAvidham । yena nirvAsyate rASTrAdvanavAsAya rAghavaH ॥ 2-21-4
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन तं पश्याम्यहं लोके परोक्षमपि यो नरः । स्वमित्रोऽपि निरस्तोऽपि योऽस्यदोषमुदाहरेत् ॥ २-२१-५
I do not find anybody in this world, even an adversary or one defeated, who finds fault with him even in his absence. ॥ 2-21-5॥
english translation
na taM pazyAmyahaM loke parokSamapi yo naraH । svamitro'pi nirasto'pi yo'syadoSamudAharet ॥ 2-21-5
