प्रियम् त्वामप्रियम् वक्तुम् वाणी नास्योपपर्तते । तदवश्यम् त्वया कार्यम् यदनेनाश्रुतम् मम ॥ २-१८-२१
To him, words are not coming off to say an unpleasant thing to you for you are his beloved son. So you must fulfil the promise he has made to me. ॥ 2-18-21॥
english translation
priyam tvAmapriyam vaktum vANI nAsyopapartate । tadavazyam tvayA kAryam yadanenAzrutam mama ॥ 2-18-21
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएष मह्यम् वरम् दत्त्वा पुरा मामभिपूज्य च । स पश्चात्तप्यते राजा यथान्यः प्राकृतस्तथा ॥ २-१८-२२
In the past the king had honoured me with (two) boons. Now like any other common man he is repenting (for the same). ॥ 2-18-22॥
english translation
eSa mahyam varam dattvA purA mAmabhipUjya ca । sa pazcAttapyate rAjA yathAnyaH prAkRtastathA ॥ 2-18-22
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअतिसृज्य ददानीति वरम् मम विशाम्पतिः । स निरर्थं गतजले सेतुम् बन्धितुमिच्छति ॥ २-१८-२३
The king bestowed on me boons saying, 'I shall grant you two boons'. But now he wishes in vain to build a dam when the water has run down. ॥ 2-18-23॥
english translation
atisRjya dadAnIti varam mama vizAmpatiH । sa nirarthaM gatajale setum bandhitumicchati ॥ 2-18-23
hk transliteration by Sanscriptधर्मूलमिदम् राम विदितम् च सतामपि । तत्सत्यम् न त्यजेद्राजा कुपितस्त्वत्कृते यथा ॥ २-१८-२४
Oh ! Rama, this (truth) is the basis of righteousness. The virtuous also know this. The king being angry (with me), should not abandon the truth for your sake. ॥ 2-18-24॥
english translation
dharmUlamidam rAma viditam ca satAmapi । tatsatyam na tyajedrAjA kupitastvatkRte yathA ॥ 2-18-24
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयदि तद्वक्ष्यते राजा शुभम् वा यदि वाऽशुभम् । करिष्यसि ततः सर्वमाख्यामि पुनस्त्वहम् ॥ २-१८-२५
If you fulfil whatever the king says, pleasant or unpleasant, I shall relate to you everything. ॥ 2-18-25॥
english translation
yadi tadvakSyate rAjA zubham vA yadi vA'zubham । kariSyasi tataH sarvamAkhyAmi punastvaham ॥ 2-18-25
