पदातिरपरे कक्ष्ये द्वे जगाम नरोत्तमः । स सर्वाः समतिक्रम्य कक्ष्या दशरथात्मजः । संनिवर्त्य जनं सर्वं शुद्धान्तःपुरुमत्यगात् ॥ २-१७-२१

sanskrit

The best among men ( Rama ), crossed the remaining two ( courtyards ) on foot. Crossing all the courtyards on his way, that son of Dasaratha ( Rama ) sent back his followers and entered the private apartment of the king ( Dasaratha ). ॥ 2-17-21॥

english translation

padAtirapare kakSye dve jagAma narottamaH । sa sarvAH samatikramya kakSyA dazarathAtmajaH । saMnivartya janaM sarvaM zuddhAntaHpurumatyagAt ॥ 2-17-21

तस्मिन् प्रविष्टे पितुर्न्तिकं तदा । जनः स सर्वो मुदितो नृपात्मजे । प्रतीक्षते तस्य पुनः स्म निर्गमम् । यथोदयं चन्द्रमसः सरित्पतिः ॥ २-१७-२२

When the prince approached his father all the people were delighted and awaited his return like the lord of rivers (ocean) waiting for the rise of the Moon. ॥ 2-17-22॥

english translation

tasmin praviSTe piturntikaM tadA । janaH sa sarvo mudito nRpAtmaje । pratIkSate tasya punaH sma nirgamam । yathodayaM candramasaH saritpatiH ॥ 2-17-22
